How Investing in Budtenders Reshapes Customer Experience

One budtender’s first trip to MJBizCon with Seed Talent shows why education, access and opportunity are the real drivers of loyalty, retention and trust.

If cannabis wants to call itself a world-class industry, the customer experience must match. That experience begins with the the budtenders – the frontline salespeople at the store who guide customers through transactions.

At MJBizCon 2025, Seed Talent set out to prove a point. When you invest in frontline education, you do not just improve performance; you unlock belief. No story embodied that truth more clearly than Abrielle Greil’s.

A Career-Defining First

Abrielle is a budtender at Higher Love Dispensary, Ironwood Michigan.

Through Seed Talent’s Back-to-BizCon Budtender Giveaway in partnership with MJBiz, she earned a sponsored trip to MJBizCon in Las Vegas, including flights, hotel, and full conference access, by committing to ongoing education and course completion.

For Abrielle, the experience marked a series of firsts. It was her first time leaving Michigan, her first time flying, her first time in Las Vegas, and her first time attending an industry conference.

What mattered most was not the destination, but the shift in perspective.

“I learned so much about different products, some I never knew existed, and I would love to continue learning about them. It really inspired me to take my career to the next level,” said Abrielle as she reflected on the experience.

Walking the expo floor, seeing the innovation behind the booths, and meeting people shaping the future of cannabis expanded how Abrielle viewed her role. She no longer saw herself as just processing transactions, but as a trusted guide for customers navigating an increasingly complex category.

Education Builds Confidence, and Confidence Builds Better Customer Experiences

Abrielle’s commitment to learning began well before MJBizCon.

“Helping people is what inspired me to take extra classes to learn more about cannabis products. In this industry, a lot of people come to you for help, and it is so awesome to actually be able to help people.”

That curiosity is exactly what customers feel when they are supported by a knowledgeable budtender. Education turns quick sales into consultative conversations built on trust.

MJBizCon reinforced that mindset.

She mentioned, “Education is key. Always continue your education. You can always learn something. If you keep trying, you can never truly fail. Just be confident in yourself.”

Confidence is not accidental. It is trained.

How Seed Talent Elevates Customer Experience Through Education

Seed Talent is transforming how cannabis businesses train, retain, and empower frontline teams to deliver world class retail experiences.

With nearly 2 million course completions and deep integration into dispensary workflows, Seed Talent bridges the gap between learning and measurable outcomes. The platform ensures teams are not just compliant, but confident, competent, and customer-minded.

Abrielle felt that impact immediately, stating that “Seed Talent has been amazing, from the online education experience to the in person experiences in Vegas. I have been able to provide much better support to my customers through Seed Talent’s education.”

That is the real return on training. Better conversations, stronger trust, and customers who feel informed rather than rushed.

As an industry, we are building the future of how people will buy cannabis forever. At Seed Talent, our goal is to set a higher standard, where education powers experience and careers grow from within.

Why MJBizCon Matters for People & Progress

MJBizCon continues to be a pivotal moment for Seed Talent and the broader cannabis ecosystem. It brings together retailers, brands, investors, and service providers in one place, creating space for collaboration and scalable solutions.

In 2025, Seed Talent showed up with intention. Our presence included:

  1. Official Budtender Partnership with MJBizCon to host a national budtender career development giveaway for learners who completed 100% of their brand training coursework.
  2. The Illinois State Takeover panel moderated by our CEO Kurt Kaufmann, featuring panelists Laurie Parfitt (LKPImpact Consulting), Jeff Soenksen (Sol Canna & The Dispensary) and Nicholas Otepka (Wyld).
  3. Sponsorship of Blunt Brunch Nationals with a “Power Profile Pics” activation to ensure attendees have fresh headshots for their next big career move.
  4. Sponsorship of the National FlowerHire HR Summit – complete with a highly curated learning & development panel featuring prominent industry leaders such as Scott Goddard (The Travel Agency), Paige Robbins (Terrabis), and Ashley Alberts (Curio Wellness).

Every touchpoint reinforced the same message: People power this industry, and they deserve pathways forward.

Cannabis is still in its formative years – and heading for massive changes. That makes staying connected through the MJBiz network and the broader cannabis business community essential.

Community keeps us focused on serving real customers better, sharing knowledge across markets, elevating education and equity, and building solutions together rather than in silos.

For Abrielle, meeting the Seed Talent team made that clear.

“The Seed Talent team is humble, kind, and helpful. Meeting them made me a Seed Talent fan.”

Belief is contagious, and it shows up at the counter.

Big Picture: Breaking the Grass Ceiling Start with Training

When dispensaries invest in their frontline teams, morale improves, retention increases, hiring costs decrease, and customer experience rises.

An hourly budtender with access to education can grow into a leader, educator, or corporate contributor without leaving the industry behind.

Abrielle’s story is proof that when you invest in your people, they invest back into your customers, your culture, and your brand.

That is how you break the grass ceiling.

We are grateful to our partners at MJBizCon and to every operator, brand, and educator committed to building a better cannabis industry.

We will continue creating opportunities like this. Experiences that elevate customer experience, strengthen careers, and serve our partners and community in the year ahead.

Because great cannabis retail does not start with a product.

It starts with a prepared, confident human being behind the counter.
